A TAMIU Alumni Association Event
Saturday, November 7
Laredo Energy Arena
Gates open at 6PM
Now celebrating its 11th year, AutMus Fest is one of the largest music festivals along the US-Mexico Border drawing thousands of attendees each year. For the first time, a collaboration between the TAMIU Alumni Association, the Laredo Energy Arena and R Communications has been formed to provide an inspirational backdrop to celebrate the diversity and culture of our region and nation. As a non-profit organization, the TAMIU Alumni Association donates event proceeds to benefit student scholarships.
Originally known as Grupo Pesado, the norteño group PESADO was founded by frontman/accordionist Beto Zapata and Pepe Elizondo (bajo sexto, vocals) in 1993 in Nueva Leon, Mexico. They debuted with the album Ayudame a Olvidar, released by MCM. Llego el Amor followed in 1994, soon achieving gold status. The following year, they scored a major hit with "Eso Me Gusta." In 1997, original bass player Rodolfo Gajardo was replaced by Juan Antonio Pequeño. A new lineup change occurred in 1999 when ex-Grupo Límite drummer Luis Mario Garza took Mario Padilla's place. By the time of their seventh LP, 1999's A Tu Encuentro, Pesado had signed to the new WeaMEX imprint, which would issue a series of greatest-hits albums for the group at the turn of the millennium. Todo Tuyo was issued in early 2001. Several more albums followed (as their discography continued selling to gold and platinum status) before Pesado issued 2006's Piensame un Momento, which continued their streak and earned the group a Grammy nomination for Best Norteño Album.
Formed in 1993, Mexican El Poder del Norte, known as "el Auténtico y Unico" (the one and only), debuted with Mi Decisión. That album was followed by Como Llama, and they achieved their first Gold record with El Autentico y Unico. Performing corrido, norteño, and ranchera, el Poder del Norte became a top-selling artist in the late '90s.
Also performing at Autmus Fest 2015 is H2H AC/DC Tribute Band, Chon Arauza y La Furia Colombiana, Pancho Uresti, Kimberly Dunn, Sonido Mazter El Sonido de Acero, and Brownout presents Brown Sabbath.

The TAMIU Alumni Association founded AutMus Fest to help break the financial barriers that prevent our youth from earning a college degree. Approximately 85% of the students are economically disadvantaged. And still today, the event is driven by a volunteer group of alumni, students, staff and friends confirming that AutMus is a viable means of achieving the event's objectives.
Yet, the impact of your support goes further than fulfilling a dream: The University's direct economic impact on the City with student, employee, and visitor spending multiplied with operations, maintenance and construction is $108.6 million and supports 3,325 jobs in the Laredo/Webb County area.
In addition to scholarship opportunities for students, a corporate investment in AutMus also has long term benefits. As Hispanics make up the largest population on campus and also constitute the fastest growing community, they hold an equally impressive purchasing power with a product and corporate loyalty desired by both emerging and established companies.
